چکیده

The groundnut leafminer (Aproaerema modicella), has been reported from east African countries since 1998 and from South Africa since 2000. The study aimed at determining the biology and management of groundnut leafminer (GLM) in South Africa. In a survey, 10 parasitic Hymenoptera species were identified. Two hyperparasitoids were also recorded for the first time in South Africa. GLM flight activity patterns were studied using pheromone traps at the border of groundnut fields at four localities in South Africa. Research progress in pest behaviour was hampered because male and female moths could not be distinguished.. Morphological characteristics of both larvae and pupae were identified either by use of the naked eye or a stereomicroscope according to sex. Flight activity coincided with the peak production period of groundnut, with the highest number of moths recorded between January and May each year. The optimum time of insecticide application and the number of applications for GLM control were determined and significant differences in efficacy observed.

Impact of Insecticides on Parasitoids of the Leafminer, Liriomyza trifolii, in Pepper in South Texas

Liriomyza leafminers (Diptera: Agromyzidae) are cosmopolitan, polyphagous pests of horticultural plants and many are resistant to insecticides. Producers in South Texas rely on insecticides as the primary management tool for leafminers, and several compounds are available. The objective of this study is to address the efficacy of these compounds for controlling Liriomyza while minimizing their ...

Factors Affecting Groundnut Market Outlet Choice in Moisture Stress Area of Babile District, Eastern Ethiopia: Multivariate Probit Approach

The groundnut plant has the ability to survive in areas of low rainfall because it is a legume and it increases soil fertility by fixing nitrogen in the soil. The study area is known by erratic and uneven rainfall while groundnut is the main cash crop in the area. The study identified the groundnut market outlets, factor affecting groundnut market outlet choice and identifies farm level women r...

Hormonal priming to overcome drought stress and aging damage in groundnut seed (Arachis hypogaea L.)

Groundnut seed priming was performed with an aqueous solution of gibberellic acid (GA3) (0, 50, 100, and 150 ppm for 18h) and accelerated aging (96 h) was done prior to drought stress (-0.4, -0.6, and -0.8 MPa), then recovered. Investigated traits were germination percentage, mean germination time, germination rate, vigor index, plumule length, radicle length, seedling length, malondialdehyde c...
